Three members of the 2016 Suffolk County champion East Islip varsity football team will be going onto play in college in 2017.
Two seniors, Chris Higgins and Kyle Nunez, will be playing at Stony Brook University.
“It’s a top-notch academic and athletic school, and Stony Brook plays my style of football,” said Nunez, an outside lineman who earned All-State, All-Long Island, All-County and All-Division honors. He plans to major in business.
His teammate Chris Higgins, a linebacker and tight end who was recognized as an All-County and All-Division player, will study business or physical therapy at Stony Brook.
“I fell in love with the school,” Higgins said. “It’s great for friends and family to attend games, and the coaches and facilities are great.”
All three seniors have signed National Letters of Intent.
Fleitman, a quarterback and free safety, will attend Marist College in Poughkeepsie, where he also will major in business.
As a member of the Redmen, he was named All-Long Island and All-County.
“Marist was the best fit for me, all around,” said Fleitman.
