People of all different faiths and ages joined together Sunday for a Community Ties project at the Muslim Center of Long Island.

Over 200 people attended Sunday in Bay Shore, where they  made cards and friendship blankets for people at the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Babylon.

“We felt that it was important for all of our neighbors to come together … ” said Sharon Masrour, who helped organize the special evening through the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Multicultural Committee.

“We tend to fear that which we don’t understand; by bringing people together like this we get to know each other on a different level,” she said.

Another event organizer, Michele Boccia, said the idea was to “promote love.”

“…it breaks down barriers,” Boccia said.
