It’s been 16 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. To help remember those who lost their lives, Islip Town leaders called on the community to gather for a memorial service at Town Hall on Monday evening.

The ceremony consisted of local first responders marching together, with commentary from elected officials.

“We remember to pay tribute to the thousands who were lost to the family of humankind,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

The officials went on to read off the names of the local people who lost their lives that day.

The commemoration capped off with a wreath being laid upon the 9/11 Memorial at the Town Hall, which features a piece from the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
