It was a special Veterans Day this past Saturday in Brightwaters, where villagers gathered to dedicate a new memorial monument two years in the making.

Money for the monument was raised by village residents with the memorial project coordinator, Bobby Hulse, a village resident, veteran and former Bay Shore Fire chief, leading the efforts.

The memorial honors members of the six branches of the military. It was made and designed by Stone Unlimited.

“It was a team effort from Village Hall to the residents,” said Hulse. “The people were awesome, we raised the money overnight from the generosity of local businesses to long time residents.”

“It was a very moving ceremony,” said Ann Golden, along with her husband, Tom. “It made us proud to be Brightwaters residents,”

Hulse spoke of the sacrifices of vets, and the everyday sacrifices of first responders.

“They give give and give,” he said. “They give their time and sometimes their lives, making the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.”
