Parking will be free in Bay Shore for the holiday shopping season.

The meters will be suspended starting Saturday, Nov. 24, through New Year’s Day.

The free parking kicks off in conjunction with the national Small Business Saturday initiative, and will apply to all metered parking in Bay Shore — including the back lots, according to an announcement from Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

“I encourage everyone to shop your local small business this Saturday … and to continue to shop small throughout the holiday season and New Year,” Carpenter said.

“Small Business Saturday” is a reminder to support local businesses that create jobs, boost local economies and help preserve local downtowns.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, accounting for nearly 50 percent of all employees in the private sector, and are instrumental in capturing the unique charm and service that define the downtown shopping experience,” Carpenter said.

The town suspended the meters last holiday shopping season as well.
