Complex‘s Joe La Puma can’t get enough of giving back to his alma mater.
The 2001 Bay Shore High School graduate — now the SVP of Content for Complex — has given brand-new Nike sneakers to his hometown school twice over the past year.
La Puma, who also hosts a wildly successful sneaker TV show called Sneaker Shopping with Complex, recently visited Bay Shore to pass out another round of free kicks to fellow Marauders.
He surprised the varsity boys basketball team with 20 pairs of Nike Kevin Durant 11s, which were donated by Finish Line.
“After my first visit to the high school last March I told Principal Pashkin and Superintendent Bond I didn’t want me coming back to the school to be a one-off,” said La Puma. “It’s very important to me to continue to give back to the community and school that shaped me.”
Bay Shore’s faculty praised La Puma’s generosity.
“One of the things that makes Bay Shore so great is the way in which our alumni give back to current students,” said superintendent Joseph Bond.” Joe is a shining example of not forgetting where you come from and finding ways to pay it forward. We could not be prouder to count him among our Bay Shore family.”
