During the entire month of December, the Lessing’s Hospitality Group gave patrons an extra reason to drink craft beer.

The Long Island-based Lessing’s Hospitality Group sold a festive brew called Local Cheer, where 10 percent of the proceeds benefitted hunger relief organization Island Harvest.

Over the month, the Lessing’s ten full-service restaurants–including Southside Bar and Restaurant– sold the amber ale, which was brewed at the Blue Point Brewery.

In total, $1,500 was raised from the sales.

In addition to the money, the Lessing’s also donated 327 pounds of non-perishables to Island Harvest. The food items were collected at the Lessing’s annual holiday party.

The donations were brought to not-for-profit’s facility in Hauppauge earlier this month.

“We’re proud of the results of our efforts throughout December,” said Jennifer Cantin, Lessing’s director of marketing. “Giving back to the community is important to us and we’re thrilled to support and give back to an organization like Island Harvest.”
