The nationally touring B.B. King Blues Band featuring Michael (The Voice) Lee is heading to Bay Shore this Friday, May 17.
The band will be performing at the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts, as part of their Soul of the King Tour. Showtime is at 8 p.m. Click here for tickets. The band’s new Soul of the King album was released through Ruf Records May 10.
The album itself is described as “star-studded.” Its first single, “Irene,” for instance, features guests artists Russell Jackson and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The album also features Taj Mahal, Joe Louis Walker, Michael Lee and Kenny Neal.
The band has been together for decades, performing for years before the legendary B.B. King came out himself. The band was at a loss after King died, but eventually regrouped and began touring without their idol.
“It’s important to continue what he started,” said Terry Harvey, the group’s executive producer.
“We’re so excited to finally be able to keep our word to the world as direct musical descendants of B.B. King, we are keeping his legacy alive,” said band leader James (Boogaloo) Bolden.
The current lineup includes Lee (lead vocals. lead guitar), Bolden (trumpet), Russell Jackson (bass and vocals), Herman Jackson (drums), Eric Demmer (saxophone), Wilbert Crosby (guitar and vocals), Lamar Boulet (trumpet), Darrell Lavigne (keyboards), and Walter King (saxophone).
