Faithful and friends will be gathering near the head of Brightwaters Canal tonight, Sunday, Dec. 22, to light the island’s very first hockey stick Menorah — to mark the start of Chanukah.
Chanukah runs from Dec. 22 to Dec. 30 this year.
The Menorah-lighting celebration, among the largest outdoor Chanukah events on Long Island, starts at 5 p.m. and goes to 6:30 p.m. off West Main Street.
The Chabad Jewish Center sponsors the annual event, called Chanukah on Main Street, which this year (obviously) carries a hockey theme.
Each family also gets a free raffle ticket to win seats at Monday’s Islanders-Blue Jackets game at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.
Photos of the hockey stick Menorah weren’t immediately available.
(Scroll down for photos from last year.)
Also for families, there were hot latkes, donuts, hot chocolate, crafts, live music and balloon twisting.
The highlight will be the Chocolate Gelt Drop and Parachuting Dreidels made possible by the Bay Shore Fire Department.
