The Bay Shore Brightwaters St. Patrick’s Day Parade is officially canceled due to the fear of spreading the coronavirus.

The parade, originally set for March 14, was called off this morning.

“After much thought and consideration, and in accordance with the Office of the Suffolk County Executive’s office, we the Committee of the Bay Shore/Brightwaters Parade have decided to cancel our parade this upcoming Saturday, March 14,” reads a statement from the event organizers. “It breaks our heart for this to happen, but the health and safety of our community must come first.”

Here is the following statement from the Bay Shore Restaurant Committee, which helps runs the annual festivities:

“Restaurants are all about community. We strive to be places you come to feel safe, protected and well taken care of. We hold our hygiene standards to the highest level. Please come visit your favorite places this Saturday so we can make you feel at ease. We will be having modified parade parties so check with your local favorites to see what they have lined up for you. We are here for you and need you here for us.”
