Suffolk County police officers rushed to the rescue of a stranded kayaker in the Great South Bay Tuesday afternoon.
Around 5:10 p.m., the police’s marine bureau received a call from a motorist driving across the Robert Moses Causeway who reported seeing a flare shoot in the sky.
Officers Kevin Yoli and John Falcone boarded their boat and headed to the approximate location of the distress call. That’s when they found Fran Los, a kayaker, stuck on a construction barge that was tethered to the Robert Moses Causeway bridge.
According to Suffolk police, waters became too rough for Los and her small watercraft so she headed to the flat-bottomed boat.
The Syosset resident was brought to Captree Marina in Babylon. She was uninjured.
