Travel Alert |
The New York State Department of Transportation began a $8.9- million resurfacing project in the Town of Islip on the Sunrise Highway South Service Road from Malts Avenue to Manor Lane on Monday, Aug. 3.
Here’s the travel advisory by the NYSDOT:
One lane will be subject to closure from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and single or full road closures may occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured onto the mainline of Sunrise Highway (Route 27) during full closures. Electronic variable message signs in the area will relay additional closure information.
Workers will be repairing storm drains, installing new concrete curb ramps and resurfacing the road. Closures are scheduled to be completed in the fall.
Similar work on Ocean Parkway, which is also part of this project, is expected to get underway this fall. Full project completion is scheduled for spring 2021.
As with most road projects, work may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
