The Press Club of Long Island has once again recognized greaterlongisland.com as among the top news resources on Long Island.
Greater Long Island Media Group’s family of community news websites, all accessible through greaterlongisland.com, recently won 3rd Place for Best Website from among fellow journalists for 2019.
Greater Long Island had previously been recognized as a 2nd Place winner for its greaterpatchogue.com site, behind News 12 Digital but ahead of Newsday. That was for 2017.
The Best Website award was among several gathered by Greater Long Island Media Group this award season — from both the Press Club of Long Island and the New York Press Association in Albany.
“We’re always happy when our work is recognized right up there with Long Island’s oldest and largest news organizations,” said Greater Long Island founder Michael White. “Newsday and News 12 are multi-million dollar operations. We’re still just a few people running around every day.
“One day we’ll have our own multi-million dollar newsroom.”
Among the other top awards was a Second Place win for editorial director Nicholas Esposito through the Press Association in the contest’s most competitive category: Feature Story.
Esposito was recognized for his writing and storytelling skills through a report about a forensic scientist who opened an art studio in Port Jefferson.
“The article’s strong lede ropes the reader in and breaks down her unique career switch with originality, detail and clarity,” the judges wrote.

The company also landed First Place honors for a “Nosh on This” promotional video distributed through GLI-TV and featuring Locale Gastro Bar & Pizzette in Patchogue, all shot and produced by Andrew Theodorakis and Ryan Honan. Click here to watch.

The Greater-branded sites are on track to be viewed 6 million times in 2020 alone, during which time Long Islanders came to truly rely on the sites for localized COVID-19 updates, as well as other news stories.
The company also helped raise nearly $40,000 during the height of the pandemic to help local restaurants and hospital workers.
A seventh brand, GreaterSmithtown, is expected to launch this fall.
“It has been a grueling 2020 — to say the least — but these awards are definitely a good boost for morale,” said Esposito. “We have big plans for 2021 where you’ll see major growth from our company. We promise that.”
